Marketplace On Mill Street is a re-branded version of Pit Stop Printing, which began in Lake Mills, IA in 2004. The primary focus at that time was printed products & vinyl decals. The main objectives of this busienss were to provide quality service, fair prices, along with fast turn-around time.
The original services quickly shifted to vinyl decals, signs & soon included apparel. Needless to say, the line-up of services & location outgrew the name quite quickly. Being self taught in nearly every area of the business led to many changes along the way including techniques used to make the products as well as procedures to handle the growth of the business. We have always backed our products & service with a quality gaurentee along the way. Since 2004, owner Katie Wubben, has become a leading expert in the decorated apparel industry & is proud to utilize her talents in the local community, nationally & globally. The business has products in multiple coutries & nearly all 50 states of the U.S.
A Business Was Born
Shop owner, Katie Wubben, decided at a young age to start a business & be self-employed right out of high school in hopes of having a more flexible lifestyle & being able to control the policies & procedures within the workplace to avoid a factory position. Knowing little about running a business along with being a full-time college student, the first few years were filled with long days, little pay & lots of sacrifice to make things work. Many friends & family stepped up to help make it succeed.
The business moved a number of times in Lake Mills, IA before settling on Mill Street, but has also had pop-up shops temporarily both in mall settings as well as a mobile unit that frequented county fairs to make custom products on-site letting the customers get involved with the process while building a solid reputation around the North Iowa area.
The Business Grows
In more recent years, the business grew many times again while bringing in embroidery and sublimation services. The one-woman shop needed help & has been blessed to have many great employees through the years. We also developed an Etsy store online, which has greatly helped keep the doors open & the staff busy through each Christmas season, shipping hundreds of custom orders all over the U.S.
Growth can be a difficult thing to manage & running a business can be extremely consuming. In recent years, the business had gotten away from it's original focus letting turn-around time shift to a longer wait to maintain the quality & service customers had come to know & expect. Changes needed to be made to allow the busienss to thrive & maintain goals as well as focus on a new, larger mission as a company.
Owner, Katie Wubben, was nervous to re-brand the business after developing a customer base & reputation; but she realized in recent years it needed to change & evolution is a critical part of being in business.
The Business Evolves
It was time that the name, image & shopping experience fit the amazing services & variety the business had grown into. The store needed more space to fill with the huge variety of retail items we have built over the years; but also we needed room to fit the new additions. We are proud to offer a newly expanded variety of jewelry, home decor items, housewares & much more to fill a void in our community with a gift selection for all chapters of life. These items can be purchased as they are, while some can be personalized to make them all the more special to the recipient.
